I generally like her supernatural stories the best but I was kind of sad this was only a two story set. Now I'm wondering if there are more or if they're associated with a novel or two because the author writes as though we should know the narrator.In the first the narrator (a thief by trade), while visiting stumbles upon a diary hinting at a very intriguing manuscript all while dodging a wife who wants to hire him for something else.
The second is the same narrator who, by the end, has decided to break into the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
They may not sound very amusing but the dry, witty tone they're written in gives them a comical twist.
Recommended, definitely. And I'm off to try to find out if the narrator appears in any other books or short stories.

Sarah Rayne is one of my favorite authors. Very well written, but not all that interesting.
